So here is a timeline of the Single Ladies meme, tranny and all:
Loren Feldman made this great video saying most people are average and most bloggers produce unoriginal content. I became aware of this recently. I am one of those people. I now won't publish links to stuff, but provide some sort of value. And the only value I can provide in this format (a blog) is my opinions, observations and ideas. That's it.
Leslie Hall is brilliant.... but Xeni Jardin seemed odder than Leslie in this interview. Am I totally wrong? Now, I am not trying to make enemies with someone I don't even know, who runs one of the most popular blogs in the universe. I am just saying... she's an odd bird. And I bet she'd agree. I've heard her interviews on some podcast I used to listen to, and honestly was creeped out by her voice. I think it was NPR. Anyways, this video is great because it's no NOT an interview, but an odd convo between a comedian and a, well, a Xeni. Enjoy.
I now know who Jib Hunt is and what he does, have his site bookmarked, friended him on myspace and subscribed to his myspace blog. Why? He wanted to follow my tweets on twitter.
When someone clicks the "follow" button on my twitter profile, whether on twitterific, snitter, their cell, or the old standard website, I get emailed to me a notice about it.
Lately, as in the past three months, I've been getting "followers" I've never met. Jib Hunt is one of those followers. As a nobody who would find it neat to be somebody on the web someday, I first found this once-a-week validation of my online humanity thrilling. I jumped to the conclusion that they must want to follow me because they read one of my three blogs, found a comment I left on another's blog insightful, liked my flickr photos, enjoyed the videos on youtube or ustream or blip.tv...and then found my twitter feed and liked what they saw there, as well.
But now that people keep coming (and they do) I question my assumption. I do this not because of anything they do, but something I am doing. Now when I receive a notice that a person wants to follow my tweets, I take steps to learn about them. Here's the typical scenario:
1. View their Twitter homepage. This involves checking their latest tweets to see what they care about and if i'd want to follow them myself. So I ask you. That seemingly innocent interest in following me...is that a backdoor way to get me to explore and learn about these people and their media? I think it is. And if so, kudos. They've found a new way to self-market. But beware. These people might just be out for self-promotion and nothing else.
2. Visit their website or blog.
3. Subscribe to their podcast or blog.
Is Youtube falling apart?
--Joost is the new youtube. Viacom, owner of Comedy Central, MTV and others, could not reach an agreement with Youtube, pulled 100,000 videos off the site and struck a deal with Joost.com, the video site (now in beta) created by the guys who made Skype. Joost will host all of Viacom's online video content. Joost will only feature content created by it's partners. We, the lowly masses, cannot upload to Joost. But we can watch tv shows there for free. --"A deal between Google and CBS to let YouTube users watch clips from shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman has unraveled, according to published reports." (Source)
--I heard on Buzz Out Loud that Youtube will only allow content providers who are business partners with the company access to it's filtering software. This is called blackmail.
Steve Jobs' latest teacher rant
I've heard on several podcasts that Steve Jobs thinks teachers should not have tenure because it prevents the bad ones from being fired. Just because you have tenure means that if you are a bad teacher, you can't be fired? Is this true?
Singing News Anchor
"Yahoo is hoping a quirky take on the news will strike a chord as its next original programing effort. The Web giant confirmed Wednesday that it will launch a video project before the end of this quarter that will feature a journalist-cum-crooner who will sing the news." (Source)
